How to Play LinkWreck

A practical guide to movement, Scrap, survival, and arena control.

LinkWreck is a browser-first physics arena game. You control a fragile core attached to a heavy wrecking ball by a chain. The core is your body, the ball is your weapon, and the chain creates the timing puzzle that makes every fight feel different. Winning is not only about chasing rivals; it is about keeping your own core safe while building enough momentum to land clean hits.

Basic Goal

Your score is Scrap. You earn Scrap by collecting pickups around the arena and by wrecking rival cores. A good run usually starts with a few safe pickups, then shifts into controlled fights once your ball has enough size, chain reach, shield, or spark power to threaten other players.

Movement

Move your core with mouse or touch input. The ball follows through the chain, so sharp turns create swing energy. Wide circles make the ball orbit smoothly; quick reversals can snap the ball into a rival, but they also expose your core if you overcommit. Try to move around threats rather than directly into them.

Attacking

Only the wrecking ball should touch enemy cores. A fast ball hit is more valuable than a slow bump because momentum creates stronger impact windows. When an opponent is running in a straight line, approach from the side and let the ball cross their path. When an opponent is circling, break their rhythm by changing direction before your ball reaches them.

Defending

Your own ball can block enemy balls. Blocking is safer than core-to-core contact and helps you recover dash energy. If you are low on shield or trapped near obstacles, move so the ball sits between your core and the attacker. A defensive orbit can turn into a counterattack when the rival misses.

Pickups

  • Chain: increases reach and makes wider attacks possible.
  • Spike: increases ball size, making hits easier to land.
  • Shield: protects your core from dangerous contact.
  • Spark: improves hit pressure and rewards aggressive timing.
  • Boost: refills dash energy so you can escape or finish a fight.

Upgrade Choices

During a match, Scrap milestones can offer temporary run upgrades. Pick upgrades based on your current position. Chain and ball upgrades are strong when you want to fight. Speed and survival bonuses are better when the leaderboard is crowded or when you need to protect a good score.

Common Mistakes

  • Chasing a rival with your core instead of leading with the ball.
  • Ignoring small Scrap clusters early in the match.
  • Using boost only for attacks and having no escape option afterward.
  • Fighting inside a bad zone without understanding how it changes movement.

First Run Checklist

Collect safe Scrap, learn how your ball swings, use the minimap to avoid crowded fights, and choose one rival at a time. LinkWreck rewards patience more than it looks like at first glance. The cleanest wrecks usually happen after you make the opponent miss.
